All public workers will get salary increase under Tinubu — Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has said all public sector workers will eventually benefit from salary increases under President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the administration is prioritising economic expansion before implementing further wage adjustments.

In a statement on Thursday, Omokri said the government was deliberately avoiding a repeat of the inflationary consequences that followed the Udoji Salary Awards of 1975 by first strengthening Nigeria’s productive capacity.

According to him, President Tinubu’s economic reforms are already yielding positive results, citing improvements in manufacturing, the capital market, foreign reserves and economic growth.

He claimed that Nigeria now has the second-largest manufacturing base in Africa, behind only Egypt, and suggested the country could overtake Egypt when the figures are updated.

Omokri also pointed to the performance of the Nigerian Exchange, saying it had emerged as the world’s best-performing stock market based on Bloomberg data, while the naira ranked as Africa’s second-best-performing currency in the first quarter of 2026, behind the Zambian kwacha.

He further highlighted Nigeria’s 3.89 per cent year-on-year economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 and the rise in the country’s foreign reserves to $52.5 billion, describing the figures as evidence that the administration’s economic reforms are stabilising the economy.

According to him, the improved fiscal position has enabled states to meet salary obligations, unlike previous years when several state governments struggled to pay workers.

Omokri assured civil servants that salary increases similar to those recently approved for military personnel would eventually be extended across the public service.

He maintained that the Tinubu administration remained committed to improving workers’ purchasing power but would do so in a manner that protects the economy from inflationary pressures.
