Amaechi vows to defeat Tinubu in 2027 if given ADC presidential ticket

Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, says he is confident of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if he emerges as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking during an X Spaces conversation on Saturday, Amaechi dismissed allegations of election rigging against him, insisting he has never been involved in electoral malpractice and has consistently rejected offers to serve on the All Progressives Congress (APC) election planning committees.

“I’ve never contested against Tinubu, but I know his strengths and weaknesses.

“If I get the ADC ticket, I will defeat him,” he said.

“I challenge any politician, living or dead, to prove that I took part in rigging.

“I will apologise if there’s evidence.”

Amaechi accused some politicians of using state governors and government agencies to divert public funds for elections, adding that he would expose such practices if he secures the party’s presidential ticket.

He vowed to run a clean campaign and pledged to end electoral fraud if elected president.

The former Rivers State governor also acknowledged that Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, won in Rivers during the 2023 elections, although the final results did not reflect that outcome.

Amaechi had earlier declared on July 3 that he would serve only one term if elected president in 2027, saying this would allow for power rotation between the North and South in line with Nigeria’s political arrangement.
