APC promises greater inclusion for women ahead of 2027 elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged to expand women’s representation in governance, with its National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, assuring that more opportunities will be created for women in elective and appointive positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the APC National Women Leader, Mary Alile Idele, alongside zonal and state women leaders at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He commended women for their consistent contributions to the party’s growth and electoral successes, describing them as the backbone of the APC.

“You are the pillars of this party in rain and sunshine. During campaigns and elections, you are always present and actively involved,” he said.

The APC chairman emphasized that women possess the competence and leadership capacity required to excel in public office, stressing that gender should not be a barrier to political advancement.

He also pledged to personally advocate for increased female participation in party structures, campaign councils, and government appointments.

“When appointments are made in 2027, my voice will be there for you. I will stand behind you all the way,” Yilwatda assured.

He further argued that the principle of federal character should go beyond geographical balancing to include gender representation, noting that decisions taken now would shape opportunities for future generations of women.

Earlier, Alile said the visit was to formally introduce newly elected state women leaders across the country and to reaffirm their commitment to the party.

She praised Yilwatda’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and unifying, and credited it with boosting confidence within party ranks.

Alile also called for greater inclusion of women at all levels of governance, noting their critical role in grassroots mobilization and electoral victories nationwide.

She expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her support for women-focused initiatives and empowerment programmes.

The APC women leader further appealed for stronger representation of women in campaign councils and requested sustained operational support for her office to enhance coordination of party activities.

She assured the party leadership of continued loyalty and pledged that women across the federation would intensify mobilization efforts ahead of future elections.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the party leadership and women stakeholders to strengthen women’s participation in politics and consolidate the APC’s standing as an inclusive political platform.
