The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the call by the newly declared factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, for foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria.
Turaki, while addressing journalists on Tuesday amid the deepening crisis within the PDP, reportedly urged the international community to step in to “save Nigeria from alleged Christian genocide” and protect the nation’s democracy.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described Turaki’s comments as “reckless and unpatriotic,” warning that inviting foreign invasion over an internal party crisis poses a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and national security.
The ruling party said Turaki, who was declared chairman just 72 hours ago by a faction of the PDP, appeared “desperate, incoherent, and overwhelmed,” adding that Nigerians had expected him to prioritize peace-building and reconciliation within his fractured party.
The APC further criticized the PDP for what it called a failure of internal democracy, noting that in the party’s 16 years in power, no opposition group ever called for foreign intervention in its internal affairs.
“This call is a final certification of the PDP’s demise,” the statement read, urging the international community to disregard what it termed a “pitiful distraction.”
The APC also accused opposition leaders of growing desperation, claiming they were willing to involve foreign powers in Nigeria’s political affairs to advance their agenda.
The party urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration as it works to “build progress and prosperity in all areas of national life.”
