The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was reached by the ward’s Executive Committee during a meeting held on May 26, 2026, following what party officials described as a prolonged pattern of actions undermining the party’s unity and strength.
In a suspension letter signed by Ward Chairman Shaibu Mohammed and Secretary Kabiru Mohammed, alongside other executives, the party accused the senator of fraternising with opposition figures and engaging in moves suggestive of a planned defection from the APC.
The ward leadership also cited what it termed a disappointing role played by Echocho during party consultations and internal processes, alleging that his actions were linked to a “self-serving third-term agenda.”
According to the statement, the senator had consistently worked against the party’s interests despite benefiting from its platform for nearly a decade.
The party further claimed that Echocho failed to secure victory in his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and did not provide the expected leadership during critical political engagements in the state.
Speaking after the announcement, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa described the suspension as necessary to protect the party’s integrity in Kogi East, accusing the lawmaker of poor representation and actions detrimental to the party’s stability.
Stakeholders across the district also expressed dissatisfaction with the senator’s performance, urging the party to prioritise loyalty and collective interest over individual ambition.
Party members in the area reportedly commended the ward executives for taking what they described as a bold step to address internal challenges and strengthen the party.
The suspension, according to the ward executives, is intended to serve as a warning to other members whose actions could threaten the unity and electoral prospects of the APC in Kogi State.
Efforts to reach the senator for his reaction were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, as calls and messages to his phone were not returned.
