No fewer than 14 living heroes of the Nigerian Army have been presented with brand new Hilux vehicles for their service to the nation in commemoration of the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC).

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, made the presentation on Saturday.

The COAS said the presentation was in honour and recognition of the sacrifices of both the fallen heroes and veterans who are still alive for their services to the Nigerian Army, the nation, and humanity.

Presenting the vehicles on behalf of Yahaya to one of the beneficiaries, the Provost Marshal, Army, Major General Robert Aiyenigba, said the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration provided an opportunity for retrospection and appreciation of the patriotism and sacrifices demonstrated by both veterans and fallen heroes.

Gen. Aiyenigba stressed that the gesture was an affirmation of the high premium the Chief of Army Staff places on the welfare of the personnel.

He then handed over the keys and official documents of a brand new Hilux vehicle to the former Regimental Sergeant Major, Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police (NACMP), ex-army warrant officer, Akinyokun Felix, on the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of service to the country.

Responding, the ex-army warrant officer expressed his appreciation to Yahaya for finding them worthy of the gifts, describing it as a morale booster to them and those they left in service.

He added that they will continue to support the army to succeed in her constitutional mandate, even in retirement.
