Aseyin of Iseyin joins ancestors, slated for burial tomorrow

The ancient town of Iseyin in Oyo State was on Sunday thrown into mournful mood following the demise of its traditional ruler, Oba Abdulganiyu Salawudeen.

The Aseyin’s death is coming months after the passage of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi; Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and the Asigangan of Igangan.

A family source told newsmen that the 28th Aseyin died on Sunday morning at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he had been for months.

Salawudeen, aged 62, was a University of Ibadan trained Veterinary Doctor and ascended the throne in 2006.

Confirming the demise of the monarch, the Secretary, Aseyin Royal Family, Prince Femi Olalere, said the late Aseyin would be interred on Monday in the town.

He added: “The entire Aseyin Royal family appreciates the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Oluseyi Makinde, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Mr Bayo Lawal, for their supports during his (Aseyin) illness.

“God Almighty will continue to bless and see them through.”

Salaudeen was born into the family of the late Pa Salau Atanda Oloogunebi of Iseyin and attended Ansarudeen Primary School, Ebedi, Iseyin.

He later proceeded to the Muslim Secondary High School, Ore-Moje in Iseyin, for modern school education.
