Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, has submitted himself to the Lagos State Police Command, following his arrest order by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba.

Baba had directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to arrest Seun for assaulting a police officer in uniform in the state.

Seun, the youngest son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, was seen in a viral video slapping the policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State on Saturday, May 13.

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a series of tweets on his Twitter account on Monday, May 15, said the famous singer, in the early hours of today, turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative.

Hundeyin noted that Seun has been placed under arrest in line with the law.

“The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved,” the police spokesperson added.

Seun had alleged that the assaulted policeman attempted to harm him and his family.

The musician, who made this known via his Instagram page on Saturday, added that the policeman had since apologised and he had forgiven him.

He said: “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I’m not seeking attention.

“He has apologised, and I have agreed not to press charges. Please mind your business and ensure the poor guy doesn’t lose his job.”
