An associate of popular socialite and music promoter, Samson Eletu, widely known as Sam Larry, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming he died following a road accident in Lagos.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Monday, Akin Abolade, popularly known as Mr Lilgaga, confirmed that Sam Larry survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to Abolade, he spoke with the socialite shortly after the accident, insisting that reports of his death were false.
“Yes, he’s alive and not dead, but his condition cannot be ascertained because of how bad the accident was. We spoke after the accident. He’s alive, and I’m sure of that,” he said.
Sam Larry was reportedly involved in a serious accident along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in Lagos State in the early hours of Saturday.
The crash reportedly involved the vehicle conveying the music promoter and a trailer. Videos shared on social media showed the badly damaged vehicle at the scene, highlighting the severity of the collision.
The accident reportedly claimed the life of Sam Larry’s bouncer, identified simply as Wale, who was said to have died on the spot.
News of the incident gained wider attention after comedian and master of ceremonies Mario Wazobia appealed to the public on Instagram to pray for the music promoter, revealing that he had been rushed to hospital following the crash.
The accident also fuelled speculation online that Sam Larry had died or suffered severe leg injuries that could result in amputation.
However, Abolade said he could not confirm reports about the extent of the injuries, including claims that the socialite’s legs were badly damaged or might require amputation, maintaining only that Sam Larry is alive and undergoing treatment.
