Asu Ekiye clarifies divorce, says wife initiated proceedings

Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has clarified the circumstances surrounding the dissolution of his marriage, saying his wife initiated the separation and subsequently filed for divorce.

Ekiye made the clarification in a statement issued following what he described as numerous calls and messages seeking explanations about the development.

According to him, his wife expressed her desire to end the marriage, moved out of their home and later commenced divorce proceedings.

He said the decision was not preceded by any quarrel between them.

Ekiye disclosed that he spent about a year making efforts to reconcile with his wife and appealed to her to reconsider the decision in the hope of preserving their marriage.

“Unfortunately, those efforts did not yield the desired outcome, as she remained firm in her decision,” he said.

The gospel singer said he eventually accepted the situation after exhausting what he described as all reasonable efforts to save the marriage.

“Having done all I could to seek reconciliation, I eventually came to the difficult decision to accept the reality of the situation and allow the divorce process to take its course,” he said.

Ekiye explained that he issued the statement to set the record straight and avoid misconceptions about his role in the divorce.

He, however, said he harboured no bitterness or ill will towards his wife or anyone involved.

“After many years of shared experiences, I choose to approach this new chapter with grace, dignity, maturity and respect for all concerned,” he said.
