There are strong indications that the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have concluded plans to extend their warning strike by two months.
It was gathered that the decision to extend the strike was taken at the Union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Sunday night.
A credible source at the meeting disclosed that Union has concluded arrangements to ground universities for two months to press home its demand from the Federal Government.
The source added that the outcome of the meeting would soon be made known via a statement to the media.
Meanwhile, a tweet on the unverified Twitter handle of ASUU, on Monday, announced that the union had extended the warning strike by two months.
It read: “The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has extended its warning strike for another two months (Till May 14th).

“The decision to extend the strike was taken at the union’s National Executive Council, NEC meeting held in Abuja last night.”
The Star reports that the demands of ASUU include funding for revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances, renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.
Others are University Transparency Accountability Solution, and the inconsistencies in the payment of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
The Union had on February 14, 2022, declared a four-week “comprehensive and total” strike.
The nationwide strike was declared by the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, at a press conference he addressed in Lagos.
