Atiku vs Wike: Rivers Assembly delists Omehia as ex-gov

Former Governor of Rivers State, Celestine Omehia, has lost his status as onetime governor of the state.

The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution withdrawing its recognition of Omehia as former governor of the state.

At a plenary, all 21 members present voted in support of the motion to delist Omehia as former governor.

The lawmakers also asked Omehia to refun about N600 million benefits the former governor had received from the state.

Also, the House ordered Omehia to refund N97 million pension paid to him to the state treasury.

The House resolved to forward the resolution to Governor Nyesom Wike for implementation.

The Star learnt that Omehia suffers the loss over his romance with the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Omehia has pitched his tent with Atiku against Wike in the leadership crisis rocking the PDP.

Omehia was removed as governor of Rivers State in 2007 following the judgement of the supreme court.

The apex court ruled that Omehia was not duly nominated as the PDP candidate for the 2007 governorship election.

Rotimi Amaechi was returned as governor.
