The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said his visit to the United States was aimed at building an economically stronger and more secure Nigeria.
The Star had reported that the former Vice President arrived in Washington DC, United States, on Thursday for political campaigns ahead of the 2023 general election.
However, his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, in a statement issued on Friday, said Atiku will be in the United States for a week-long engagement that will be an opportunity for the PDP presidential candidate to share his vision for Nigeria with U.S. business communities and young Nigerian professionals in North America.

Ibe added that the delegation of the former Vice President comprised senior members of the PDP presidential campaign council, personal aides, and other members of the main opposition party.
Those in the official delegation include the Director-General of the PDP presidential campaign council and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former governor of Imo, Emeka Ihedioha; and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu; among others.
Until 2019 when he was able to enter U.S. under a brokered deal, Atiku was barred from entering the country since he left office in 2007 as Vice President.
The United States Government indicted him over allegations of corruption and money laundering in the sum of $40 million involving him, a former U.S. Senator, Williams Jefferson, and his fourth wife, Jennifer Douglas, who is a U.S. citizen.
