Bandits abduct electoral commissioner, ex-Niger SUBEB chairman

Bandits have abducted the Commissioner of Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), Ahmed Mohammed, and a former Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Bawa Niworo, in the state.

It was gathered that the victims were among the travellers abducted by bandits on the Zugurma–Ibbi road in Niger State on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The bandits were said to have shot sporadically at the police patrol vehicles stationed near the National Park in Ibbi.

Police officer shot dead in Niger State

The gunmen attacked at least three commercial buses and abducted the passengers, including traders who were returning from the market.

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Abiodun said efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victims.
