Suspected bandits have abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Umar Bungudu, during an attack on his residence.
According to reports, the gunmen invaded Bungudu town, located less than 20 kilometres from the state capital, Gusau, in the early hours of the attack and headed directly to the council chairman’s home.
The assailants reportedly overpowered security personnel guarding the residence, killing two police officers and two vigilantes before abducting the chairman, his wife and children.
Security operatives who responded to the incident pursued the attackers and succeeded in rescuing four or five of the abducted children, although the chairman and some family members remain in captivity.
