Bandits kill 7 civil defence officers, 5 vigilante operatives

Bandits have killed no fewer than seven officers of the m Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at Kuriga mining site in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The bandits also killed five other persons in the attack which occurred at about 10 a.m. on Monday.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the NSCDC Director of Public Relations, Olusola Odumosu, said the five others were from a sister security agency and local vigilance group.

Odumosu disclosed that one NSCDC officer escaped the attack with injuries, adding that he is currently undergoing treatment.

He described the attack as unfortunate and a big loss to the Corps and family of the deceased.

The NSCDC spokesperson stated that the assailants carted away rifles of the slain operatives, adding that the remains of the officers had been deposited at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, the Corps has lost three other officers from the National Headquarters in a car accident on Monday evening.

The accident victims were a female officer and two male operatives.
