Wike mocks Gov Bala of dishonesty, flip-flopping

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, accusing him of dishonesty and political inconsistency.

Wike alleged that ahead of the just-concluded PDP national convention, Governor Mohammed approached him seeking support to install the party’s National Secretary — a request he said he declined.

The FCT Minister further claimed that in 2022, Mohammed privately urged him to support then–APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, only to reverse his position days later. Wike described the governor’s conduct as evidence of an unstable political character.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects in Jahi and Kuje on Tuesday, Wike praised the quality and pace of work on the road and bridge linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, as well as the Airport Expressway–Kuje and Kuje–Gwagwalada roads. He said the projects would be ready for commissioning to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

Wike dismissed Governor Mohammed’s allegation that he was planted to destroy the PDP, calling it “embarrassing, baseless, and a product of inconsistency.”

“It’s very embarrassing. He says one thing in the morning and another in the afternoon. We are happy he has shown Nigerians who he truly is — someone who is never stable,” Wike said.

He also ridiculed Mohammed’s push for the National Secretary position for his faction, insisting the Bauchi governor was negotiating “from a point of weakness.”

“You lost. You’re conquered. How can you be talking from a weak position and demanding the most important office? That is not done,” he added.

According to Wike, the successful PDP convention proved that predictions of the party’s collapse were unfounded.

“The convention has shown that the PDP is alive and kicking. Yes, there are one or two issues, but that is normal and we will fix them,” he stated.

Wike criticised politicians he described as inconsistent, warning Nigerians to beware of leaders who “say one thing today and another tomorrow.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP while maintaining his support for President Tinubu.

“I will not leave the PDP, but I will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That has always been my position since 2022. I never hid it — unlike those who change their story by the hour,” he said.
