Bandits kill abducted NYSC member despite N10m ransom payment

Family members of an abducted member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Abba, say they fear he has been killed by his captors despite paying a ransom of N10 million for his release.

The family disclosed that communication with the kidnappers stopped shortly after the ransom was delivered, raising strong fears that the corps member may have been killed.

According to family sources, the abductors had initially demanded additional items, including motorcycles, even after receiving the N10 million ransom payment.

However, the family said it refused to meet the new demands after the kidnappers suddenly cut off all communication.

“Since receiving the N10 million ransom payment, Abba’s abductors have completely stopped communicating with the family,” a source said.

In view of the development, the family said it had begun arrangements to hold funeral prayers for the corps member in absentia, in line with Islamic rites.

“Abba’s family is preparing to observe his Janaza prayer (Gha’ib) on Friday, March 6, in accordance with Islamic rules,” the source added.

The family also expressed gratitude to individuals and groups who supported them during the ordeal.

“Abba’s family wishes to express profound appreciation to everyone who offered support, prayers, donations and kind words during this difficult time. May the Almighty reward your generosity abundantly,” the family said.

They added that the family continues to pray that if the corps member is still alive, he will regain his freedom soon.

“If he has passed on, may Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” a family member said.
