A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been killed by bandits during an attack on Magamar Jibia in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State on Wednesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Abdullahi Rano, was shot by the gunmen when he led security operatives comprising policemen and troops of the Nigerian Army to repel an attack on the town.
DSP Rano was in charge of the Divisional Police Office in Jibia.
Magamar Jibia is a border town of Nigeria with the Niger Republic.
The bandits came on hundreds of motorcycles to attack the town.
Public Relations Officer of Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.
He vowed that the police would bring the perpetrators to book.
A resident, Musa Hassan, said that the gunshots from the bandits attracted the attention of security operatives who rushed to the scene and engaged the bandits in gun duel.
The security operatives repelled the attack and the bandits fled.
