Armed bandits have killed a 60-year-old man and set parts of a property ablaze during an attack on Gidan Wando village in Bakori Local Government Area.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 7:06 p.m. on Tuesday when gunmen, riding on about 17 motorcycles, stormed the community and began shooting.
A joint security team comprising military personnel and local vigilance groups reportedly responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a gun battle that forced them to flee and restored calm to the area.
During the attack, a stray bullet allegedly hit the victim, identified as Sabiu Mohammed, while a fire broke out at his farm produce shop and spread to two nearby rooms.
The fire was later put out through the combined efforts of security operatives and residents. The victim was taken to a health facility, where he was confirmed dead.
Security forces have since intensified patrols in the area and are working to track down the fleeing assailants.
