Barau to Gov Abba: Stop playing politics with insecurity

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Kano State Government to stop politicising security matters and instead focus on addressing the growing challenges in the state.

Barau’s response followed allegations made after the state’s 34th Executive Council Meeting, where the government claimed a statement attributed to him could undermine ongoing security operations.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, the senator dismissed the allegations as false and baseless.

According to him, “The claims by the Kano State Government are false, reckless and malicious. Senator Barau never made any remark capable of undermining security efforts in Kano or anywhere in Nigeria.”

He accused the state government of fabricating stories to tarnish his reputation and challenged officials to provide evidence:
“We challenge them to produce the clip where Senator Barau made such a statement.”

Barau reiterated his commitment to supporting security agencies, saying he has consistently collaborated with stakeholders to combat banditry and other criminal activities.

He criticised the current administration, saying governance in Kano has deteriorated.

“Until governance was relegated, Kano used to be second only to Lagos in prosperity.

“Misgovernance has eroded that,” he said, adding that the state can reclaim its former status if the right decisions are taken.

The senator highlighted his contributions to security in Kano, including providing vehicles and motorcycles to police formations, renovating police facilities, building new stations, and supporting the DSS.

He also facilitated the establishment of NSCDC, Police Service Commission, and Immigration training institutions in Gwarzo, Kabo and Bichi, respectively.

Additionally, he installed solar streetlights across communities to aid night patrols.

The statement concluded by advising the Kano State Government to focus on governance and emulate his commitment to improving security rather than launching personal attacks.
