Bauchi commissioner resigns as father loses traditional title

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Cooperatives and SMEs Development, Sa’adatu Kirfi, and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Harsanu Guyaba, have resigned their appointments.

This was contained in separate letters addressed to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammmed, on Wednesday.

The commissioner’s resignation was not unconnected with the removal of her father, Bello Kirfi, as Wazirin Bauchi and member of the Bauchi Emirate Council member.

Bello Kirfi, a retired federal civil servant and Second Republic Minister of Special Duties, was for the second time removed as title holder.

The former minister was removed over his alleged “disloyalty and disrespect” to Governor Mohammed.

Kirfi’s removal was conveyed in a letter addressed to him by the Secretary of the Bauchi Emirate Council, Alhaji Shehu Mudi Muhammad, dated January 3rd, 2023 with reference No: BEC/ADM/20/VOL.XV and titled: “Removal from office as a Council Member and Traditional Title of Wazirin Bauchi.”

He was first removed by the Bauchi Emirate Council in March 2017 for alleged “disloyal and unruly behaviour” during the administration of Governor Mohammed Abubakar.

In protest, Kirfi, in a letter dated January 4, said: “Your Excellency, I wish to humbly tender my resignation as a member, Bauchi State Executive Council, and Hon Commissioner Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Development, Bauchi State with immediate effect.

“I wish to thank His Excellency the Executive Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve my State under your Administration,” the commissioner stated.

Also, Guyaba’s resignation letter dated January 4 read: “It is with immense gratitude to the Almighty Allah (SWT) and deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, I wish to tender my resignation as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Local Government Affairs.

“On behalf of myself and my family, I wish to register my personal appreciation to Gov Mohammmed for finding me worthy of appointment to the position of SSA on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. It is a great honour done to me.”
