Bauchi district head demands justice over son’s killing

The District Head of Miri in Bauchi State, Hussaini Ghani, has called for justice over the death of his 25-year-old son who was allegedly killed by a vigilante group, Bauchi State Vigilante and Youth Empowerment Agency, in the state.

The district head made the appeal while speaking to journalists over the weekend at his residence in Bauchi.

“My son was killed some minutes after I left him by a vigilante group of Umaru Shayi team,” he said.

The district head stressed that he was the group’s target before his son, Muhammadu Ghani, was killed, saying: “I’m sure they target at me; it’s me that they wanted to kill but unfortunately my son was killed after I left him.

“Until what happened to my son, they’ve attacked us firstly at Tashan Babeye, secondly at Sheikh Dahiru’s mosque, and thirdly along the Emir’s Drive towards my house as we were coming back to house with my procession after paying homage to the Emir.

“During the last encounter, someone among the Vigilante group members shot my son with live ammunition and he died immediately.

“I have the video clips with me and I will provide it as evidence to prove my allegations.

“I’ve filed and forwarded my complaints to the relevant security authority concern and government officials to inform them and seek justice over the death of my son.

“I’m appealing to the government to arrest the vigilante officials and made deep investigation on the matter with a view to fishing out those behind the killing.”

Meanwhile, the vigilante agency and the Bauchi State Police Command have yet to speak on the incident as of press time.

It would be recalled that Ghani was killed on the second day of Sallah during the traditional culture of “Hawan Bariki” normally paid to the governor at his residence after Sallah.
