The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has dissolved all Area Education and School Support Officer teams across the state’s 20 local government areas as part of a major overhaul aimed at improving supervision and educational outcomes in public schools.
SUBEB Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, made the announcement during an interactive meeting with education secretaries. He explained that the decision is part of a broader strategy to strengthen oversight, streamline school support functions, and enhance service delivery within the state’s basic education sector.
Those affected by the dissolution include Arabic and Christian visiting teachers, Early Child Care Development Education (ECCDE) officers, education supervisors, and library supervisors operating under the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
Duguri said the reform is necessary to address gaps in supervision and accountability.
According to a statement from the board’s spokesperson, Isah Mohammed Jungudo, SUBEB has directed all relevant departments at both the board and LEA levels to ensure a smooth transition.
This includes safeguarding official records and ongoing educational projects.
Going forward, only officers appointed through UBEC, SUBEB, or the LEAs under newly established selection criteria will be recognized for supervisory roles.
Duguri stated that the education secretaries would oversee the appointment of new officers, guided by updated standards aimed at professionalizing school support systems.
He also noted that new operational guidelines would soon be circulated to all LEAs to promote consistency and improved performance across the board.
All affected officers have been instructed to report to their respective LGEA headquarters for assessment and documentation as part of the restructuring process.
