Bayelsa police officers arrested for assaulting tricycle rider

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested police officers involved in the assault on a tricycle rider in the state.

This follows a viral video making the rounds on social media platforms, showing police officers assaulting a tricycle driver in Bayelsa State.

The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Mohammed said the State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Edebor, condemned the act in strong terms and described it as unacceptable and contrary to professional policing standards.

“The officers involved have been arrested and disciplinary proceedings has since commenced in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations,” Mohammed stated.

He quoted Edebor as reiterating that the Command does not tolerate any form of human rights violation, unprofessional conduct or brutality.

The police commissioner also reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights and safety of all citizens while ensuring lawful and professional policing across Bayelsa State.
