B’Haram attacks Niger communities as troops foil attempt to loot foodstuffs

The Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Chubadi, Mangoro and Argida communities in Niger State.

It was gathered that the Boko Haram fighters attacked the three communities within the Shiroro area of the state on Monday evening in an attempt to loot foodstuff and other logistic provisions.

The attack is coming barely 24 hours after the insurgents killed four operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state.

However, local sources disclosed that the terrorists failed to execute their mission as troops of the Nigerian Army and vigilantes from neighbouring Zuru town, in Kebbi State, foiled their ‘robbery’ attempt.

“The swift response of army troops and local vigilantes who came from Kebbi State, precisely Zuru, averted the looting attack and bloody carnage on villagers in Chubadi, Mangoro and Argida,” one of the local sources disclosed.

It would be recalled that four officers of the NSCDC were killed in the early hours of Monday by landmines planted by terrorists on a road along the Galadiman Kogo axis in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered that the four NSCDC operatives identified as ASC I Mohammed Ibrahim, ASC I I Cheche Ahmed, IC Yunusa Mahmam and CAI Bala Abdullahi, were killed when their patrol van ran into some planted explosives on the road.

It was further learned that the driver of the patrol vehicle, who survived the ambush, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Shiroro town.

Meanwhile, a military intelligence source has confirmed that Boko Haram terrorists were behind the recent attacks in Niger State.

“The sophisticated weapons they use, the hoisting of flags and the secretive ways they plant the IEDs are clear signatures of Boko Haram terrorists.

“Even with the aerial bombing, ground operations are being hampered by planted IEDs which require sweeping to defuse affected areas.

“We can’t move without advisories from bomb experts on the safety of our troops and the routes.

“You may recall that last month, over 50 Boko Haram terrorists on a reprisal mission after the killing and arrest of their members and recovery of over 500 animals, launched the bloodiest attack on the camp of Joint Security Task Force in the same Galadiman Kogo district. They killed 11 security personnel including intelligence operatives,” PRNigeria quoted the source as saying.

It was, however, gathered that the camp of the Joint Security Task Force stationed at Kuchi in Munya was later shut down.
