Boost for national grid as Egbin Power plant restores 433MW generation after maintenance

Egbin Power Plc has resumed electricity generation with an output of 433 megawatts (MW) following the completion of maintenance works on its cooling system.

The Egbin Power Head of Corporate Communications, Felix Ofulue, made this known via a statement issued on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Ofulue said operations had stabilised, with available generating units now functioning optimally to support improved power supply to the national grid.

Ofulue said the maintenance exercise was carried out to enhance operational efficiency and sustain reliable electricity generation.

“Operations have resumed and the units are working optimally. As of Wednesday morning, the plant was generating 433 megawatts to the national grid,” he stated.

He noted that engineers and technical personnel successfully completed the maintenance on the cooling infrastructure, enabling gradual restoration of generation across the plant’s units.

Ofulue reiterated Egbin Power’s commitment to operational efficiency, safety standards and improved power generation capacity.

Industry stakeholders said the restoration of generation from the plant would strengthen electricity supply and support ongoing efforts to improve grid stability across Nigeria.

Egbin Power Plant, located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, has an installed capacity of 1,320MW, with six generating units of 220MW each.

The plant remains the largest thermal power generation station in Nigeria and a major contributor to electricity supply across the country.
