Borno to shut down Muna IDP Camp

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has announced plans to close the Muna Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Maiduguri in the coming weeks, as part of ongoing efforts to phase out formal camps within the state capital and surrounding areas.

The governor made the disclosure during a visit to the camp on Monday.
Established at the peak of the state’s humanitarian crisis, the Muna IDP camp currently shelters approximately 10,000 displaced persons.

Governor Zulum noted, however, that nearly 75 per cent of the camp’s population had already been resettled.
He assured the remaining residents that the government would provide necessary support to help them rebuild their lives and return to their original communities.

“The closure of this camp represents another critical step in our transition from emergency humanitarian relief to long-term recovery and sustainable resettlement,” the governor stated.

Governor Zulum, during his first term, had vowed to close all IDP camps within Maiduguri. Since then, more than 12 camps have been successfully shut down as part of that pledge.

Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring stability and dignity to displaced communities across the state.
