A fighter jet belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has crashed in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

It was gathered that the NAF fighter jet crashed in Makurdi on Friday, July 14, 2023, while the two officers of the Nigerian Air Force onboard escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, the NAF Director, Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said the NAF FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed at about 4.15p.m. while on routine training exercise.

Gabkwet said the two pilots on board survived the crash after successfully ejecting from the aircraft.

According to him, there was no loss of lives or damage to any property around the area of impact.

He said: “Both pilots are currently under observation at NAF Base Hospital, Makurdi.

“Meanwhile, the Chief of Air Staff, AVM Hassan Abubakar, has constituted a Board of Inquiry to determine the immediate and remote causes of the crash.”
