A leading cement manufacturing company in Nigeria, BUA Cement, has donated water, electricity, and other projects worth about N360 million to communities in Sokoto State.

The projects include a 10,000-litre capacity mechanised borehole to improve water supply at Gagi community in Sokoto South Local Government Area.

The company also donated a 500KVA electricity transformer at Gidan Baduwa in Wamakko Local Government Area.

Inaugurating the projects on Wednesday, the BUA Managing Director, Yusuf Halliru-Binji, said the projects were provided to complement the government’s efforts in the provision of basic amenities to its host communities.

“We believe in giving back to the communities, appreciating the unconditional support and understanding that we receive from our host communities and state.

“Within 2022, the company provided similar projects at Gidan Gamba (borehole), Hunde Cibuwa, 500kva transformer, Rugar Waru, 500kva transformer, Specialist Hospital Sokoto, transformer, solar-powered borehole in Dagelawa.

“The company also provided drugs and hospital equipment to eight clinics within Wamakko Local Government,” the managing director said.

According to him, the company is also currently executing similar projects in Gidan Fulani and Bakin Kusu, which are the installation of a 500KVA transformer and a solar-powered borehole at Gidan Sanda, both in Wamakko LGA.

Halliru-Binji, who was represented by a director, Tukur Lawal, disclosed that BUA spent about N360 million to execute the projects.

He assured that all the ongoing projects would be completed this month and would be inaugurated accordingly.

Halliru-Binji further announced that 118 students would receive the company’s scholarship grants this month, to enable them continue with their studies, after a prolonged ASUU strike.

“The benefiting students are from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states and are both continuing and fresh beneficiaries.

“As part of educational sector contribution, BUA Cement is also donating school tables and exercise books to about 20 schools within Sokoto metropolis and Wamakko local government.

“We are also renovating classroom blocks and conveniences at Abdulrasheed Adisa Raji School for physically challenged students.

“All these projects and programmes are essential part of our corporate social responsibility initiative, to better the lives and living conditions of our host communities and state,” Halliru-Binji said.

The managing director lauded the Sokoto State Government for its unconditional support to the firm.

The District Head of Gagi, Sani Umar-Jabbi, while appreciating the company’s gesture, said the borehole would go a long way in providing potable water to the members of the community.

Also speaking, the District Head of Arkilla, Aliyu Hassan, commended BUA Cement for its continuous provision of amenities to its host communities.
