President Muhammadu Buhari will on Saturday (today) depart Abuja for Ghana to attend an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on the political situation in Mali and other parts of the sub-region.
The Summit will hold at the Presidential Palace, Accra, also known as the Jubilee House.
This was disclosed via a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Saturday.
According to Adesina, the Summit is expected to review progress made by Mali’s military junta on the return of the country to democratic rule.
The presidential spokesman added that the Heads of State will also review the situation in the Republics of Burkina Faso and Guinea.
The President would be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd) and Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar.

Adesina stated that the President would return to Abuja at the end of the Summit today.
President Buhari had returned to Abuja on Friday at the end of a three-day state visit to Spain.
Buhari, while in Spain, met with President Pedro Sanchez as well as the Spanish monarch, His Majesty King Felipe VI.
At the meeting with President Sanchez, Nigeria and Spain signed nine Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covering a Treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and the transfer of sentenced persons and extradition.
Others were on economic and commercial cooperation, tourism, sports, health, the fight against COVID-19 and science and innovation.
