CAC raises the alarm over 15 fake company names in circulation

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has warned Nigerians about 15 fake and unregistered company names currently being used for business transactions across the country.

In a public notice posted on X, the Commission said the listed entities do not exist in its official database and urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals or organisations operating under such identities.

The CAC said the alert became necessary after it discovered that the firms had been conducting business with forged names and registration numbers, posing risks to investors and the general public.

The fake names include Famas Services Nigeria Limited, Promo Dutch Investment Limited, Dialack Concept Nig. Ltd, Purpleheart Construction and Real Estate Management Co. Ltd, M/S Loktu Enterprises, Loktu Enterprises, Badatoyak Ltd, Johnson Nats Limited, Peoples Club Nigeria International, and Jiba Enterprise. Others are Civil Engineering Solutions Nigeria Limited, Gabdoff Hotel Ltd, Amoka Group, BEEC Nigeria Limited, and S. Adetunji.

According to the Commission, the rise in fictitious business identities is a growing concern, as such operators often use forged RC numbers, fake invoices and falsified documents to deceive unsuspecting clients.

It advised the public to always verify company registration details via the CAC online portal before entering any business agreement and to report suspicious entities to the Commission or security agencies.

The notice comes amid rising complaints about questionable business practices.

In August, the CAC exposed 247 companies operating with false registration numbers and removed them from its database.

The Commission has also intensified efforts to sanitise its register by delisting companies that fail to comply with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, warning that those that do not file annual returns or update beneficial ownership records risk losing their corporate status.
