CAF announces new date for 2021 AFCON third-place final

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has announced a new date to play the third-place final of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

CAF made the latest development known via a statement on Wednesday.

It stated that the third-place final, which was earlier slated for Sunday, February 6, 2022, will now hold on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

The African football governing body noted that the match would be played at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Cameroon at 8p.m.

CAF added that the decision was made after discussions with the Government of Cameroon and the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

It stated: “The CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Organising Committee, after discussions with the Government of Cameroon and the Local Organising Committee (LOC), decided to move the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 third and fourth place originally scheduled for Sunday 06 February 2022 to Saturday, 05 February 2022.

“The match, to be played at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, will kick-off at 20h00.”

The Star reports that Senegal on Wednesday became the first team to be through to the 2021 AFCON final after thrashing Burkina Faso 3-1.

The Teranga Lions will now play the winner between Cameroon and Egypt in Sunday’s final, while Burkina Faso will slug with out with the loser between Cameroon and Egypt in the third-place final.
