CAF to hold WAFCON 2026 final draw in Morocco January 15

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the final draw for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will take place in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday, January 15.

CAF made the announcement in a statement published on its website on Wednesday, noting that the draw ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. local time (1:00 p.m. GMT).

The continental body also revealed that the same event will feature the announcement of winners in several women’s football award categories, including the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year and other outstanding honours.

According to CAF, the 2026 WAFCON will be historic, as it will be the first edition of the tournament to feature 16 teams.

The qualified nations are host Morocco, Nigeria, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

Ahead of the draw, CAF will also unveil winners in three women’s football award categories: CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year, and CAF Women’s Club of the Year.

The awards were initially scheduled to be presented at the CAF Awards ceremony on November 19 but were postponed because the women’s football season had not concluded due to the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League. CAF has since reopened voting for the three categories.

The confederation clarified that it does not participate in the voting process but only supervises and coordinates it.

Voting for the Women’s Interclub Player of the Year will involve media representatives, as well as captains and coaches participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Women’s Coach of the Year award will be decided by votes from the media and coaches of CAF member associations, while the Women’s Club of the Year will be determined by the media and the CAF Women’s Technical Committee.
