A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), his wife and his son bail of ₦500 million each in their ongoing criminal case.
Presiding Judge Emeka Nwite set strict conditions for the bail, including the requirement that each defendant provide two sureties who own verifiable landed property in the highbrow Abuja districts of Asokoro, Maitama or Gwarinpa.
The court also ordered that the title documents for the properties be deposited with the court and verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar, and that the sureties swear affidavits of means confirming their financial capacity.
In addition, Malami was instructed to submit his travel documents to the court and must not leave Nigeria without the court’s permission.
Malami, along with his wife and son, is standing trial on charges related to alleged fraud and money laundering brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
