The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the remand of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, well known as Bobrisky, in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody.
The presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro, ordered the remand of Bobrisky after the cross-dresser was convicted of naira abuse and money laundering on Friday, April 5, 2024.
The court convicted the defendant following his guilty plea.
The EFCC charged Bobrisky with six counts of abuse and money laundering.
When the case was called, prosecutor Suleiman Suleiman informed the court that following a discussion, Bobrisky agreed to plead guilty to the charge.
He, consequently, applied for counts five and six to be struck out, leaving counts one to four.
The court accordingly struck out counts five and six.
When the remaining counts were read to the cross-dresser, he pleaded guilty to the same.
Following his plea, the prosecutor called on the investigating police officer to give a brief review of the case as its prosecution witness.
Court convicts Bobrisky for naira abuse, money laundering
The witness, Bolaji Temitope, an assistant superintendent of the EFCC, said during an investigation, the team came about a video where the defendant was seen mutilating naira notes.
Temitope said the videos were downloaded and copied on a Compact Disc (CD) while a letter of invitation was sent to Bobrisky.
He told the court that the defendant honoured the invitation, adding that when he arrived at the EFCC office, he was cautioned and volunteered a statement.
The witness added that the cross-dresser was then shown a video where he was spraying money on an artiste identified as Segun Johnson, adding that the defendant confessed and admitted that he was the person in the video.
Temitope said Bobrisky was also shown two videos of him spraying money at Ajah and Ikorodu junction in Lagos, noting that the defendant admitted the same.
The witness confirmed same to the court, and there was no objection from the defence .
The prosecutor, therefore, urged the court to convict the defendant as charged based on the case presented by the EFCC.
The court, consequently, found the defendant guilty of the offence as charged and convicted him.
On his part, the defence counsel, Ayo Olumofin begged for a non-custodial sentence for Bobrisky.
The judge however reserved judgement until April 9 and ordered that the cross-dresser be remanded in EFCC custody pending judgement.
