Court sends accountant to prison for stealing N200m

The Lagos State High Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos has remanded an accountant, Oguibe Promise Nkwachukwu, over the alleged stealing of N200 million.

Nkwachukwu and his company, Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, were arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 13-count charge bordering on stealing on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The EFCC said the accountant allegedly stole N200 million while serving as an accountant of Travelstar Web Logistics Limited.

One of the counts read: “That you, Oguibe Promise Nkwachukwu, being the alter ego of Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited and Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, being a company incorporated in Nigeria sometime in March, 2020 in Nigeria, within the Judicial Division of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted to your own use the sum of $ 36,000, property of Travelstar Web Logistics Limited entrusted to you, being the custodian as an accountant to the Travelstar Web Logistics Limited, thereby committed an offence stealing, contrary to Section 280(1) (b) and (2) (f) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, A.A. Usman, asked the court for a trial date for the prosecution to open its case and also prayed the court to remand Nkwachukwu at a correctional centre.

The defence counsel, Kelvin C. Uzozie, informed the court of a pending bail application on behalf of his client and also pleaded that the defendant be remanded in the EFCC custody.

After listening to both parties, the presiding judge, Justice R.A. Oshodi, ordered the remand of the accountant at the correctional centre in Kirikiri, Lagos State.

Justice Oshodi adjourned the matter till October 17, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application.
