A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, on Thursday, July 18, 2024, remanded a 72-year-old man, Patrick Ukpenor, in a correctional centre for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the state.
Magistrate E. Kubrinhe remanded Ukpebor at Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos where he will be until August 13 for trial.
The Magistrate refused to take Ukpenor’s plea after the charge was read.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that Ukpenor committed the offence at Amutu Street in the Ilasamaja area of Lagos on July 4.
Police arrest officer for raping teenager
Iberedem said the septuagenarian sexually assaulted the six-year-old girl.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 261, 263(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Sexual assault attracts a three-year jail term while sexual assault by penetration is punishable with life imprisonment if convicted.
