Davido writes Trump, seek global attention on Osun election

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, fondly called Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, citing concerns over rising political tension and the need to safeguard the democratic process.

Davido, in a statement posted on his social media accounts on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, expressed worries about the possibility of violence, voter intimidation, and disruptions during the election, urging authorities to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.

Addressing Trump directly, Davido said there were “growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process” in Osun State.

He stressed that the people of the state should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and without fear.

Davido stated: “President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.

“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.

“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.”

The award-winning singer also called for restraint among political actors, insisting that peace and transparency should take precedence over partisan interests.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” added Davido, who is the nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke
