Kano varsity dismisses viral claim about Emir Sanusi’s academic record

Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has dismissed a viral video and social media posts alleging that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had an academic deficiency while studying at the institution.

The university described the claims as false and misleading in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim.

The university said the video showed Sanusi attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the institution.

It said the footage was later accompanied by claims that the emir had a carry-over and approached the university to address an alleged academic deficiency.

“The management categorically distances itself from the said video, write-ups and the claims contained therein,” the statement said.

The institution said the allegation had no factual basis and urged members of the public to disregard the video, write-ups and related claims.

It also warned individuals against creating or circulating false and defamatory content about the university.

According to the management, anyone identified as being involved in the creation or circulation of the alleged false claims would be reported to relevant authorities and prosecuted in line with applicable laws.

The university advised the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information about the institution and its activities.

The development followed an earlier denial by the Secretary to the Kano Emirate Council, who also described the allegation as false and unfounded.
