Delta orders arrest over attack on Oborevwori’s aide

The Delta State Government has directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind the violent attack on Simon Mudi, a protocol aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, during the Delta Central All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting held in Effurun.

The directive followed the disruption of the meeting at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Uvwie Local Government Area on Sunday, where several persons were reportedly assaulted.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, condemned the attack, describing it as a threat to public peace and an act the government would not tolerate.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori has instructed security agencies to identify everyone involved in the violence and ensure they are brought to justice.

“The reported acts of violence, particularly the brutal attack on Simon Mudi, are unacceptable and have no place in our society. The governor has directed security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute all those responsible,” Aniagwu said.

The government said it was concerned by videos circulating on social media showing Mudi being attacked by armed youths during the incident. He reportedly sustained serious injuries in the assault.

Reports also indicated that the Commissioner for Works (Urban and Highways), Reuben Izeze, was attacked during the fracas.

Aniagwu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that no individual or group would be allowed to resort to violence regardless of political affiliation or status.

He urged residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies as investigations into the incident continue.
