The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the death of Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah following a terrorist attack on troops in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, in a statement issued on Friday, April 10, 2026, disclosed that Braimah was killed alongside another officer and two soldiers during the early Thursday assault.

Onoja said the troops came under heavy attack on April 9, 2026, but engaged the terrorists and successfully held their position despite the casualties.

“On 9 April 2026, troops deployed in Benisheikh in Kaga LGA of Borno State came under terrorists’ attack. Troops engaged the terrorists and held their ground. Regrettably, some personnel paid the supreme price, including the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.O. Braimah and three other Armed Forces personnel,” the defence spokesman noted.

Onoja described the late Brigadier-General as a courageous leader whose bravery and dedication exemplified the values of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria mourn deeply with the families, loved ones, and colleagues of these fallen heroes. Their courage will forever be etched in the history of the Armed Forces,” he added.

The DHQ also conveyed condolences from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, assuring families of the deceased that their sacrifice would not be in vain.

The military further reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing operations nationwide, stressing that the incident would strengthen troops’ resolve in combating terrorism.

The Nigerian Army had earlier dismissed reports claiming that 17 soldiers, including a brigade commander, were killed in the attack.

The army described the claims as exaggerated and inaccurate, noting that the figure circulating in some reports was “entirely false, misleading, and devoid of credibility.”

The army, however, did not disclose the identities of the personnel who died in the incident.
