A dispatch rider has been confirmed dead in an accident at Motorways inward Estate, Alapere, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the accident via a statement issued on Monday, April 20, 2026.

Bakare-Oki said preliminary findings revealed that an empty NIPCO tanker rammed into the rider, causing instantaneous death.

Bakare-Oki stated: “LASTMA officers responded promptly, preventing a breakdown of order as aggrieved riders attempted to attack the tanker driver.

“Officials rescued the injured driver and handed him to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent treatment at a nearby hospital.

“Police operatives from Alausa Division restored calm, dispersing the crowd, and preventing further violence.”

Bakare-Oki condoled with the victim’s family and urged motorists, especially tanker drivers, to obey speed limits and traffic regulations.

He reiterated that reckless driving and speeding remain major causes of road fatalities in Lagos State.

The LASTMA boss dded that the tanker and wrecked motorcycle were handed to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
