Disu returns to first police station, asks officers to reflect on their journey

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has returned to the police division where he began his journey as a divisional police officer, decades after his posting to Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State.

Disu visited the Ago-Iwoye Police Division during a tour of the area, taking time to inspect his former office, residence and the surroundings where he served as a young officer.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, shared details of the visit on Saturday in a post on X, accompanied by a video of the IGP touring the station.

Iniedu described the visit as a return to Disu’s first police station, noting that he had risen from serving as a DPO in Ago-Iwoye to becoming Inspector-General of Police.

During the visit, Disu reflected on the experience and recalled the challenges of his first assignment as a DPO.

“It’s a very emotional one. This is my first police station. This is where I learned to be a DPO,” he said.

According to the IGP, Ago-Iwoye was where he first had the opportunity to put his leadership abilities to the test after being posted there without previous experience as a divisional police officer.

“This is the first time I was able to test my leadership ability. I remember when I was posted here. I’ve never been a DPO before,” he recalled.

Disu also visited his former living quarters and office, saying the memories of his early years in the police force remained vivid.

“I’ve just gone around to see my room. I’ve entered the office and I’ve looked around,” he said.

The IGP said he also intended to revisit familiar places and people around the station, recalling an elderly woman who sold items near the police division and kept goats that frequently wandered into the premises.

“I’m going to go around the streets. I know there’s an old woman in front of the police station. She used to sell things. She rears goats. The goats always come into our station,” Disu said.

He also recalled an elderly man he knew as Baba Aladji, before drawing a broader lesson from his return to Ago-Iwoye.

Disu urged people, particularly police officers, to take their responsibilities seriously wherever they find themselves and leave behind a legacy they can be proud to revisit.

“For everybody, not only police officers. Where you work, do well. The question is, can you go back to where you worked before?” he asked.

Iniedu, in his account of the visit, described it as more than a nostalgic trip, saying it offered a reminder that every successful career has a starting point.

“From Ago Iwoye to Force HQ. From DPO to IGP,” he wrote, noting that Disu had returned to the station “decades after it all began.”
