A medical doctor, Uyi Iluobe, has been shot dead in a private hospital in Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that Iluobe was killed by unknown persons at the hospital on New Year’s Eve.
The incident was confirmed on Tuesday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.
Edafe, who debunked insinuations that the doctor was killed by relatives of a patient, disclosed that the doctor was shot dead inside his hospital.
“The rumour making the rounds that he was murdered by the family of a patient who died in the hospital is false please. There is no record of any patient’s death in the hospital.

“However, we are investigating to unravel the reason why he was murdered and also arrest the suspects,” the police spokesperson said.
Reacting to the incident, the governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, described the murder of Iluobe as “barbaric and reprehensible”.
Okowa, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, urged security agencies to intensify investigation into the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The governor, who commiserated with the family of the deceased, called on residents of Delta State to be vigilant and report all criminal-related activities to security agencies.
Governor Okowa, however, warned criminals to leave the state, saying every criminal act would be tracked, unraveled, and prosecuted.
