A man, Abubakar Lukman, has dragged his fiancée, Fatima Muhammad, before a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking the return of wedding “gift” items to her family.
“Both our parents were involved in the preparations for the wedding. But I later discovered certain my wife to be had some habits that I cannot condone in a wife. I decided to call off the wedding,” Lukman told the court on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
He asked the court to order Muhammad to return foodstuffs, an electric kettle, gas cylinder, a floor rug, sweets, buckets, and dates given during the marriage introduction.
The defence counsel, Sani Sanusi, denied the allegation, saying all the items had been returned to the complainant.
The presiding Judge, Yakubu Abdullahi, adjourned the matter until September 25 for Lukman to present witnesses or evidence to prove the items were not returned.
