Kebbi gov dissolves electoral commission board

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the dissolution of the Governing Board of the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission, KEBSIEC, following the expiration of its tenure.

The dissolution will take effect on September 18, 2026, according to a letter issued by the Director, Executive Council, Kabiru Hassan Wasagu, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala Tafida.

The notice, made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, said the governor approved the dissolution after the tenure of the board expired.

“I am directed to inform you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the dissolution of the Governing Board of the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission following the expiration of its tenure, with effect from September 18, 2026,” the letter stated.

The government clarified that two other members of the electoral commission whose tenure is still running will remain in office pending the reconstitution of the commission.

Idris thanked the outgoing board members for their contributions and service to the state during their tenure.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving the autonomy and credibility of the state electoral body.

“I am assuring you of the renewed determination of this administration to protect the independent status of the Commission,” he said.

The dissolution is therefore expected to pave the way for the reconstitution of the KEBSIEC governing board after September 18.
