DSS arrests ISWAP commander in Kano

A senior commander of the terror group, the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) has been apprehended by the security forces in Kano.

Identified as Malam Abba, he is the ISWAP’s head of recruitment and contact mobilisation for the vicious group.

The ISWAP commander was arrested at Samegu community of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State recently.

Abba was arrested alongside other terrorists by the operatives of Department of State Security (DSS).

There are fears that he was coordinating activities for the terror group in Kano.

Boko Haram terrorists had in the past launched attacks in Kano but many were repelled.

ISWAP’s presence has recently been confirmed in Kaduna and some bushes in the North-West region of the country where cases of abductions and killings are prevalent.

In the past, some criminals were arrested in Kano while trying to find refuge after leaving their known cities and towns of atrocities.

It would be recalled that an explosion rocked the Sabon Gari area of Kano on May 17, 2022, where lives were lost and many injured.

Although the police said the explosion was a gas cylinder before later confirmed that it was chemicals for making Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Shortly after, the police intercepted a vehicle loaded with IED materials being conveyed to Kano through neighbouring Jigawa State.
