The operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided the residence and office of the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, in Abuja.

It was gathered that the DSS officers conducted the search on Bawa’s house in Gwarinpa, while the same exercise was carried out on his office in the Jabi area of Abuja last Saturday.

The Star had reported that the secret police, on Wednesday, June 14, grilled the suspended EFCC chairman following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu for alleged weighty allegations against him (Bawa).

The Director of Operations of the anti-graft agency was mandated to take over from Bawa pending the outcome of the investigation.

The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, who confirmed the development, said Bawa was invited over some investigative activities concerning him.

Speaking on the search, a credible source disclosed that Bawa’s office and home were combed by DSS operatives who presented a search warrant.

The source added that the secret police also invited Bawa’s close associates in the EFCC for questioning over alleged mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds of sold assets forfeited to the anti-graft agency.

“DSS operatives stormed the EFCC Headquarters in Jabi on Saturday to search the office of the suspended chairman. But they presented a search warrant. Another set of DSS operatives also searched Bawa’s home in Gwarinpa, and they met his wife and children in the house during the search.

“Bawa’s close associates at the office were also invited for questioning this week, and they’re being probed on allegations of mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds forfeited assets sold under Bawa’s watch,” the source told Punch.

Meanwhile, the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, has yet to speak on the development as of press time.
