The Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned Nigerians to beware of one Mr. Barry Donald, a dismissed officer allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement released on Thursday, the DSS said Donald has been posing as a serving officer to extort money and deceive citizens under false pretences.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public to the activities of one Barry Donald, a dismissed staff member. He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement read.
The agency clarified that Donald no longer has any affiliation with the DSS and urged Nigerians to avoid any form of interaction or transaction with him.
“For requests, enquiries, or complaints, the Service can be reached on 09088373515 or via email at dsspr@dss.gov.ng,” the statement added.
The DSS also advised citizens to verify any claims or representations made in its name before taking action, warning that fraudsters continue to exploit the agency’s identity for criminal purposes.
